After dark

The best show
starts at sundown.

Out here the night sky is the main event. Far from city lights, clear moonless nights bring out the Milky Way, and the big meteor showers are worth staying up for. Pull a chair up to the fire pit, switch off the outdoor lights and give your eyes twenty minutes to adjust.

  • Time it with the moonThe nights around a new moon are the darkest of the month.
  • Bring a warm layerDesert nights cool off fast, even after a hot day.
  • Keep it dimA red light protects your night vision; a bright phone screen resets it.
